The colour red

hibou_creations_the-colour-red

To me, the colour red is vibrant, red is fiery, red is blood, red is romance, red is warm. I love wearing red from time to time, yet, I cannot write my name or the name of anyone I know in red. It just makes me feel weird. I also like wearing accessories in red, such as earrings, necklaces, scarves or belts.

Facts

The colour red cannot be formed by any combination of other colours, therefore it’s one of the primary colours. There are at least 23 shades of red. Red is one of the colours of the rainbow, next to orange and opposite violet. It’s the colour of blood.

Chakras

In the world of chakras, red is the colour associated with the root chakra. The root chakra is the first of the seven main chakras. It’s located at the base of our spine and extends to our legs and feet. This chakra is the source of our survival instincts and being in touch with our physical experience of self. The root chakra keeps us grounded and allows us to tap into intelligent and natural instincts to create a life for ourselves that meets all of our needs. Interestingly, this chakra is also called the Muladhara chakra, which translates to “base”, “foundation” or “root support”.

Meaning, symbolism & cultures

Red is the colour of energy, passion, action, ambition and determination. It is also the colour of anger and sexual passion. It’s often associated with power and confidence.

However, being surrounded by too much of the colour red can cause us to become irritated, agitated and ultimately angry.

In China & India, red is associated with good luck; In addition, it’s used in dresses and firecrackers in a wedding. In England, we know of the red busses and phone booths. In Spain, we find red in bullfighting and flamenco dresses.

Wearing red

Red is a very powerful colour. It is also strong-willed and can give confidence to those who are shy or lacking in will power. Wear red whenever you feel a need to portray confidence or would like to boost your self-esteem, for example if you have an important date, meeting or presentation. However, bear in mind that wearing too much red can make a person come off a little too intimidating to others who may lack self-confidence in themselves.
